C-NLOPB Issues Calls for Nominations for Areas of Interest and for Parcels

For Immediate Release
September 1, 2016

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) has issued the following Calls for Nominations:

The Call for Nominations (Areas of Interest) in the Eastern Newfoundland Region will assist the C-NLOPB in selecting a sector for introduction into the scheduled land tenure system. The Call for Nominations (Parcels) in the Jeanne d’Arc Region will assist the C-NLOPB in selecting parcels to be included in the subsequent Call for Bids. Detailed information on submission dates, formats and specific requirements can be found in the links above. Further information on the Scheduled Land Tenure system can be found here.

The Eastern Newfoundland Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), completed in 2014 by the C-NLOPB with the assistance of a multi-stakeholder working group, examined the environmental effects that may be associated with a plan, program or policy proposal related to oil and gas activities. The SEA provides extensive information that is incorporated at the earliest stages of and throughout the C-NLOPB’s scheduled land tenure process. Further information on the Eastern Newfoundland SEA can be found here. Project-specific environmental assessments that focus on site-specific issues within defined boundaries must also be completed before any proposed petroleum-related activities can be undertaken.

Offshore safety and environmental protection are paramount in all Board decisions. The C-NLOPB will not approve any offshore petroleum related activity until an Operator demonstrates that it has met all legislative and regulatory requirements and has reduced risks to levels that are as low as reasonably practicable.
