John Kennedy, P.Eng., CRSP

Director, Operations

John Kennedy has been the Director of Operations with the C-NLOPB since 2016. Since 2003, he has held the roles of Safety Officer, Well Operations Engineer, Lead Safety Officer and Acting Chief Safety Officer as required, within the C-NLOPB. John graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) in 1986 and has had his Professional Engineer designation since 1988. John has also been a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) since 2007.

John has had significant experience in equipment design, fabrication, manufacturing, factory acceptance testing, supplier auditing and management system auditing and has conducted safety assessments, safety inspections and safety audits associated with Hibernia, Terra Nova FPSO, SeaRose FPSO, GSF Grand Banks, Henry Goodrich, West Aquarius, Transocean Barents, Stena Carron, Rowan Gorilla VI and Stena IceMax, as well as various geophysical and geotechnical vessels.

John’s role of Director of Operations focuses on regulatory oversight of offshore well operations, offshore production operations and certification activities of offshore installations as well as the administration of the regulatory query process. John is also part of regulatory reform technical working groups engaged in supporting the development and amendment of regulations, guidelines and interpretation notes on matters associated with operational safety in the offshore oil and gas industry.

John is a member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Strategic Steering Committee for Arctic Structures and Arctic Operations and enjoys golfing, playing guitar and singing in St. Peter’s Church Choir.
