Susan Gover is the Chief Legal Officer with the C-NLOPB. Her main areas of practice are Natural Resources and Environmental Law as well as Administrative Law. Prior to her current role, Susan was the C-NLOPB’s Senior Legal Counsel and former Director of Commercial Registrations and Acting Director of Securities, for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Susan also was a member of the firm MacBeath Colbourne in Marystown, N.L., where her practice included agency work for the Federal Crown on customs and excise, fisheries and narcotics matters.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Comm. (Hons.) from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1989 and received an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1992. She was called to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1993. In 2009, she completed a Certificate in Negotiation, Mediation and Conflict Resolution program from St. Mary’s University.
Susan has been an instructor for the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador Bar Admission Course and has been an active member of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), holding the position of branch President for Newfoundland and Labrador in 2012. She is also a former National CBA Board Member for 2019-2021.
In 2006, Susan co-chaired the 18th Annual National Meeting of the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association and in 2016 co-chaired the Annual National Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Summit. Susan is actively engaged in the Women’s Law Forum of the CBA and was on the planning committee for the Women’s Law event held on International Women’s Day, 2018.
Currently, Susan is on the Board of Directors for the Shallaway Youth Choir and actively involved in other volunteer endeavors.
