Welcome to our new blog, which will be used by me and other C‐NLOPB staff to share information and views about important regulatory topics and matters of interest. For our first blog post, I am pleased to tell you about our Strategic Plan for 2016‐2021.
The C‐NLOPB has provided regulatory oversight of the Canada‐Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area for 30 years in four key areas: health and safety, environmental protection, resource management and exploration, and industrial benefits. This period has been marked by many changes in petroleum regulation and innovation by the industry worldwide. Offshore petroleum regulators need to be more innovative and forward looking than ever.
Our Strategic Plan was developed with this in mind, reflecting our core values of accountability, competence, fairness, and integrity. Integrating these core values with our legislated mandate has us continued on the path towards being recognized as a world‐class regulator.
The Plan focuses on three priorities: operational efficiency and effectiveness; effective change management; and effective information and data management. Over the next five years, the Board and our employees will advance these priorities in an organized, innovative, and collaborative manner, never losing sight of our focus on offshore safety and environmental protection.
You can read our strategic plan here, and please keep an eye on this space for future posts about our work.
