As part of its responsibilities under the Accord Acts for environmental protection, the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board’s (C-NLOPB) assesses the potential of environmental effects of petroleum related work or activity proposed for the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador offshore area (Offshore Area). Environmental Assessments (EAs) are completed during the application for approval to conduct exploration or development programs, and are managed by either the C-NLOPB or the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC). Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEAs), led by the C-NLOPB, are broad-scale EAs prepared to inform the land tenure process.

A number of the documents prepared under the EA or SEA process are available for a public review period and are listed below when available. Written comments on documents associated with C-NLOPB led EAs or SEAs will be accepted until the date specified. Comments can be submitted to the address below or via email to information@cnlopb.ca.

Designated Projects or Regional Assessments for activities in the Offshore Area are completed under the Impact Assessment Act 2019, and managed by the IAAC.
