Spill Prevention and Response

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), working with the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) and industry stakeholders, hosted the 2023 Offshore Environmental Forum, an in-person and virtual event that look place from November 20-21, 2023 in St. John’s.

The Offshore Environmental has evolved from its original, sole focus of spill prevention and expanded to a variety of topics and issues that impact our offshore environments. This year’s forum was comprised of six sessions over the two days and brought together regulators, governments, Indigenous groups, oil and gas and fishing industries to discuss and explore:

  • Updates from CAPP, C-NLOPB, One Ocean, FFAW, and the Atlantic Groundfish Council
  • Spill Prevention and Response
  • New Technology and Emerging Research
  • Understanding and Mitigating Potential Impacts of Oil and Gas on Ocean Life
  • Seabird Research Update
  • Emissions Reduction Progress and Research

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), working with the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board and One Ocean, hosted the 2022 Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Environmental Forum, a virtual event that took place on March 8th and 9th, 2022.

This year’s forum focused on two subject areas: spill prevention and response, and emissions reduction in the offshore oil and natural gas industry. The forum brought together local and international oil and gas industry experts, regulators, governments, research organizations, Indigenous Groups and the fishing industry to explore advancements in research and technology, lessons learned and new regulations and policies.

Spill Prevention and Response Forum 2021

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB), along with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and One Ocean, held the 2021 C-NLOPB Virtual Spill Prevention and Response Forum on January 13-14, 2021.

This two-day workshop explored a variety of topics related to spill prevention and response and included overviews of the latest technologies, research & development and outlined recent changes in the regulatory environment. The Forum provided participants the opportunity to share lessons learned and review actions taken by industry over the last 12 months to enhance safety and environmental performance. This year’s Forum also included a special fishing industry session.

The Forum featured close to 200 participants from the oil and gas and fishing industries, governments, regulators, Indigenous groups and others.

Spill Prevention and Response Forum 2019

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) hosted its first Spill Prevention and Response Forum in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador on December 3-4, 2019.

The Forum provided an opportunity for regulators, governments and those ‘on the water’ to undertake a collective review of lessons learned from spills in our offshore between April 2018 and August 2019.

The Forum featured over 100 participants from regulatory agencies and government departments, oil and gas industry companies that are, or will soon be, active in the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area, along with fishing industry representatives.
