Statoil reported a high potential near miss with respect to a dropped object incident on the West Hercules offshore drilling rig.
On April 7, 2016, a clamp weighing 4.5 kg fell from a riser to the rig floor from a height of 4 metres. The incident had potential for fatality.
There were no injuries associated with this incident. Ongoing work was immediately stopped and the area was secured. A safety stand down was held with all involved personnel and a risk assessment was performed before resuming operations. The incident is being investigated jointly by Statoil and Seadrill.
