Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC) has reported a high potential near miss incident involving a dropped object on the Hibernia Platform.
On April 14, 2017, a section of completion tubing weighing 515 kilograms fell three metres to the drill floor. There were four personnel on the drill floor at the time of the incident. Ongoing work was immediately stopped and the area was secured. Although there were no injuries associated with this incident, it had the potential for fatality.
The area was immediately cleared of all personnel and secured before resuming operations. The C-NLOPB is monitoring HMDC’s continued investigation of the incident.
