Incident Disclosure 2013

Non-occupational Medevac

April 22, 2013

On April 20, 2013 a non-occupational medical emergency occurred on the M/V Maersk Beater. The affected crew member was transferred to the Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit West Aquarius for medical attention. Efforts were made to MEDEVAC the patient via helicopter, but offshore weather conditions precluded this course of action so the crew member was transported back to St. John’s onboard the vessel, M/V Atlantic Kestrel. Onshore medical opinion was that the member should be accompanied back to St. John’s by the Medic from the West Aquarius. In order to mitigate the risk of not having a Medic onboard, all non-essential activities on the West Aquarius were suspended during that period. A replacement Medic was transported to the West Aquarius via the vessel M/V Chignecto arriving at approximately 6 p.m. last night at which time normal activities resumed. The MEDEVACed worker is reported to have been released from hospital.
