On Wednesday, August 8 a Cougar helicopter enroute to the Hibernia installation received an anomalous engine speed indication. The crew communicated with Cougar’s Operational Control Centre (OCC) and decided to return to St. John’s. The helicopter landed safely and without incident at approximately 3:30 p.m. There were 11 passengers and two crew on board. A sensor issue was identified as the cause of the engine speed indication. Health & Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) data was utilized to support the assessment and subsequent maintenance action. The aircraft has been returned to service.
