Near Miss – Empty Container Lost Overboard

January 19, 2016

Husky Energy reported that on January 17, 2016, two empty containers weighing 1.3 tons each became entangled while one of the containers was being offloaded from the offshore supply vessel Maersk Detector to the SeaRose FPSO. The containers were lifted clear of the deck of the vessel and one of the containers dropped into the sea and sank. Cargo operations were immediately suspended. A number of mitigation measures were enacted to manage potential risk to subsea infrastructure. Husky officials are conducting an investigation into the incident.
