On July 28, 2015, Suncor reported a major hydrocarbon release from the Main Power Generator (MPG) of the Terra Nova Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Upon investigation, it was determined that fuel gas was venting from the MPG over a 20 hour period of intermittent operation. The MPG was switched to diesel fuel and shutdown for troubleshooting. Suncor estimates that the volume of gas released was 10,000 kg.
There were no injuries associated with this incident. The generator has since been repaired and is now operating normally. Suncor is conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
