Suncor Energy has reported an unauthorized discharge of methanol from subsea equipment from a subsea drill centre in the Terra Nova field. The release occurred on September 30, 2015. Suncor estimates that 3000L of methanol was released to the sea during the incident.
Methanol pumping was stopped once a potential leak was detected, and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) identified a subsea methanol line as the source of the leak.
The C-NLOPB is reviewing the incident and Suncor is continuing its investigation.
