Hibernia Management and Development Company (HMDC) has reported an incident that occurred on September 15, 2021, in which a worker on the Hibernia Platform was injured while working above the hot water tank. A pressure gauge separated from the flange resulting in hot water contacting the worker’s left side. The worker was escorted to the Platform Medical Center, where the platform nurse consulted with an onshore physician and medical treatment was administered. On September 16, the worker was transferred onshore for further assessment where they were further treated and released.
At the time of the incident, there was an immediate stand-down with the work group as a result of the incident, and platform leadership attended shift handovers to review the incident with the workforce. HMDC has initiated an investigation into the root cause of the incident.
The C-NLOPB is monitoring HMDC’s investigation of the incident.
