The C-NLOPB is amending its Scheduled Land Tenure System in relation to the timing of the Low Activity Sector NL02-SEN in the South Eastern Newfoundland Region. The Call for Bids in this Region, which earlier this year was rescheduled from 2021 to 2023, will now proceed in 2022 (subject to Board and Ministerial approval) and the associated Call for Nominations (Parcels) will be reissued in late summer 2021. This adjustment was considered in response to renewed petroleum industry interest, which was received following the April 2021 Scheduled Land Tenure timing updates announcement.

All parcels not awarded during the offered Call for Bids in the South Eastern Newfoundland Region, are scheduled for a cumulative Call for Bids in 2023, pending Board and Ministerial approval.

Offshore safety and environmental protection are paramount in all Board decisions. The C-NLOPB supports the Government of Canada’s commitment to the protection of environmentally significant and sensitive areas, and will continue to work closely with Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and others in this regard.

The C-NLOPB also fully appreciates the importance of both the fisheries and petroleum sectors and will continue to engage with fisheries stakeholders and DFO throughout the land tenure process.
