C-NLOPB Invites Comments On Draft Scoping Document for Labrador Shelf Strategic Environmental Assessment
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) is inviting comments on the draft Scoping Document for the Labrador Shelf Strategic Environmental Assessment. A Strategic Environmental Assessment is a broad-based approach to examining the potential environmental implications of a proposed program or policy decisions.
The results of a Strategic Environmental Assessment are used to assist the Board in its decision to issue exploration licenses for marine areas within the Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area. The C-NLOPB prepared a draft Scoping Document with the assistance of a Working Group, co-chaired with the Nunatsiavut Government, and with representatives from federal and provincial government departments and agencies, One Ocean, the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union and a local Regional Economic Development Board.
The C-NLOPB is undertaking the SEA for the Labrador Shelf Area with the assistance of the Working Group, The draft Scoping Document may be viewed on the C-NLOPB web site at www.cnlopb.nl.ca and the Nunatsiavut Government’s web site at www.nunatsiavut.com . Printed copies are also available at the C-NLOPB office in St. John’s and at the Nunatsiavut Government offices in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Nain, and Hopedale.
Written comments on the Draft Scoping Document will be accepted until noon on May 23, 2007. Comments can be sent to the address below or via email to ead@cnlopb.nl.ca.
