Saturday, November 17, 2007 will mark the 10th anniversary of First Oil in Newfoundland and Labrador. To celebrate this significant milestone in the province’s history, the C-NLOPB will hold its November Board meeting on the Hibernia Platform, weather permitting. This will be the first time the C-NLOPB has ever held a Board meeting on an offshore oil and gas facility.
While on the Platform, the Board will present the management and employees of the Hibernia Management and Development Company with a locally made slate plaque to commemorate the event. “This is a very important anniversary in the history of the province,” said Board Chair and CEO, Max Ruelokke. “On behalf of Board members and staff at the C-NLOPB, I extend congratulations to the Hibernia Management and Development Company, the Federal and Provincial Governments and to all the offshore and onshore workers who played a part in achieving First Oil.”
The success of Hibernia launched the offshore oil and gas industry in this province. To date, Hibernia has produced more than 560 million barrels of oil, employs thousands of people directly and indirectly and has contributed billions of dollars to the economies of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador.
