The C-NLOPB has been working with offshore operators and Cougar Helicopters to implement improvements to operators’ helicopter first response search and rescue (SAR) capability.
Commissioner Wells states in his February 8, 2010 letter to the C-NLOPB, which is on the C-NLOPB’s website, that:
“ the process of improvement should begin now rather than waiting for my report at the end of September or the Transportation Safety Board’s report sometime in the fall. The gist of my letter is that I think improvements to first response should be made. Improvements of course will take time and cannot be made in a day, or even a month necessarily, but the process of improvements should begin.”
The Board is continuing to work with the companies, on a priority basis, in their efforts to address this issue.
