The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board
(C-NLOPB) released its Annual Report today for the fiscal year 2011-12.
The C-NLOPB Annual Report includes highlights from the areas of Safety, Environmental Protection, Offshore Operations, Resource Management, Exploration, Land Rights Issuance and Industrial Benefits.
C-NLOPB Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Max Ruelokke said that 2011-12 was a year of change and transition for the C-NLOPB. “It has been a very busy year with plenty of challenges. I am particularly pleased with the progress that has been made implementing the recommendations of the Offshore Helicopter Safety Inquiry. Most of the recommendations have either been fully implemented, or are in the latter stages of completion,” he said.
Several internal changes have been made to strengthen the C-NLOPB’s regulatory oversight of offshore safety. The C-NLOPB divided the Operations and Safety Department into two separate divisions, hired new Safety Officers and also a new Chief Safety Officer. The Board also conducted its second Offshore Safety Forum.
Exploration activities in the Western Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Area were a major focus of the Environmental Affairs Department. The C-NLOPB began updating the Western Newfoundland Offshore Area Strategic Environmental Assessment as companies continue to advance their plans in the region.
The Public Review of the Hebron Development Plan application was completed and released to the public in this fiscal year.
